The Frenzied SLPs are excited to announce new discussions, twice a month, designed to help you share your ideas and become #SLPStrong! This week, we are talking about The Best Thing I Learned This Summer! Thank you SLP Runner!
Ah…the Cinderella movie. Did you see it earlier this summer? I took my 2 boys (they may or may not have liked it). Who wouldn’t want to get all fancied up by a fairy Godmother and be pursued by a handsome prince? Moment of silence for how we all dreamed that would happen…ok.
But, Cinderella did teach me something. “Have Courage and Be Kind.”
Did you catch that? There is something so simple in that message that you can miss it. For some reason it resonated with me as I began this summer thinking about starting this very blog. Do I really have time for a blog? How do I even start or write a blog? Who would really want to read what I have to say? What do I have to bring to the table that hasn’t already been written about? What I was really struggling with was, “Do I really matter?”
Have you ever wondered that? What do I have to contribute?
So, I decided to follow Cinderella’s advice, pull up my big-girl britches, and choose to not let my fears stand in my way.
And what did I find? I found that I don’t have to know everything up front to get started. I found that it’s ok to make mistakes- just expect to. Don’t be embarrassed about your mess-ups; just be REAL with people. Another cool thing, maybe a little surprising, that I learned is how KIND other bloggers are- they want to help you and they will. There IS room at the table for me.
So, my summer was, and still is, a time for learning, having courage, and appreciating how kind people are.
Is there something that has been holding you back out of fear? If so, think of Cinderella and have courage. Where there is kindness there is goodness. Where there is goodness there is magic.
